Skilling students is fundamental in shaping successful careers. Vocational skilling equips students with practical skills and knowledge compared to the traditional academic education, which focuses on theoretical concepts, vocational skilling offers hands-on experience and expertise that are crucial for career advancement.
Through these hands-on learning experiences, vocational skilling cultivates problem-solving skills that are integral to success in any career. When students struggle with real-world challenges, they learn to think critically, assess situations, and formulate effective solutions.
Vocational training not only prepares individuals for traditional employment but also fosters a spirit of entrepreneurship. By equipping learners with practical skills and an understanding of industry dynamics, skilling empowers students to start their own businesses and also students are better positioned to succeed due to their hands-on expertise and knowledge of market needs. It is highly engaging, promoting active learning as students are tasked with completing a task. This allows them to apply their knowledge and hone their critical thinking skills. Importantly, this instructional style encourages students to actively create knowledge rather than merely absorb it.
Skill-based learning has become a necessity today as we live in an era of unprecedented transformation. uganda has been grappling with challenges like unemployment and graduates who are unemployable and hands on skills. Despite having a wide pool of talent, many youngsters are unable to find jobs due to a lack of the required skill sets.
Dcg skilling has come to realization that having both academic papers on one hand and hands on skilling is the way to go.
The education system of Uganda and many other countries has been producing job seekers rather than job creators because of the education system which doesn’t put skilling at the center and DCG has come to solve this problem by designing a program of skilling students right from primary secondary high school and university. Therefore, in the recent past people have come to believe that education is the key but skilling is the master key.
DCG skilling has come to bring a paradigm shift in skill development in Uganda by creating employable skills and competences relevant in the labour market.
For a long time, our education system has treasured certificates but, in the end, its not all about certificates but the competences in skill-based training. The DCG skilling program employs different approaches and methods to effectively equip youth with sustainable practical livelihood and vocational skills.
We skill students from primary schools, secondary, high schools and universities with hands on skills and other relevant skills.
The training is handled using any or some or all of the following approaches: home based, Workshops, Seminars, Conferences, Short- courses, Apprenticeship, Internship, On-the Job Training, Community based
DCG skilling has very many skilled and experienced trainers in different fields of catering, hand and craft, tailoring, saloon, cosmetics, laundry making etc
These trainers they do mobilization, needs assessment, skilling and monitoring and evaluation in student skilling programs.
